Each workshop is a day-long collaboration among domain experts, librarians, and computer science specialists to gauge national need and level of demand for innovative library tools that will support cross-disciplinary discovery. The schedule is designed to generate discussion and create shared understanding. Ultimately, we hope to build long-term partnerships that can provide thought leadership around this emerging area of scholarship.


Theme: Automatic classification of documents & cross-disciplinary research

Size: 20 - 25 participants per onsite workshop

Selection Criteria for Onsite Workshops:

  • Presenters with compelling use cases around how machine learning can contribute to cross-disciplinary research
  • Diverse representation across institution types and sizes
  • Balanced mix of communities (disciplinary faculty, computer scientists, librarians, and vendors)
  • Proximity to workshop location
  • When all things are equal, by order of submission


  • Determine national need
